Date Night at Fern

Fern is one of the few vegetarian/vegan restaurants in Charlotte and it happens to be fantastic. Most items on their menu can be made vegan, some of them already are. There's a certain joy that comes from going to a restaurant that understands and honors veganism, not only because you suddenly have choice on what to pick from a menu, but also because you know that you're contributing to an establishment that in some way shares the same world view as you. Granted fern is just vegetarian, not strictly vegan, but its good to know there's no dead animal flesh being cooked up in the kitchen next to your dish! The first time J and I came to Charlotte to visit when we had to decide whether or not we would move here, Fern was the first restaurant we came to, and I think we ate there 2 or even 3 times that weekend because it was just so good. Its good to be back, to their new and improved location, and with a menu thats as delicious as I remembered.

First up: Vegan pimento cheese dip with lavash crackers and sweetened apples with herbs.
